Masiya’s Camp

Masiya’s Camp at Royal Malewane is an ultra-luxury tented safari retreat named in honour of Wilson Masiya, a legendary master tracker whose legacy is deeply connected to the African wilderness. Masiya’s Camp features six expansive Luxury Tented Suites, each draped in canvas and styled with a blend of vintage, modern, and global influences. Bespoke furniture, Persian rugs, Indian carved doors, colourful textiles, and curated artwork create a sophisticated yet warm atmosphere. Every suite includes spacious indoor and outdoor living areas, a private deck, an outdoor lounge and dining space, and a heated plunge pool with uninterrupted views of the surrounding bushveld.

Masiya’s Camp’s shared spaces are designed to feel open, modern, and deeply connected to nature. Floor-to-ceiling glass doors slide away to merge the lounge and dining areas with the outdoors, creating a seamless flow between the interiors and the wilderness. Guests can enjoy vibrant canvas-covered dining spaces, an interactive kitchen where chefs prepare meals in view, a wood-fired pizza oven, and an outdoor braai station. A central heated pool with loungers overlooks the surrounding plains, while a boutique curated by founder Liz Biden offers locally inspired items and handcrafted pieces. Guests may also access the Royal Waters Spa and gym at nearby Malewane Lodge for additional wellness and relaxation.

Masiya’s Camp is located in the 14 000-hectare Thornybush Private Game Reserve. This area shares unfenced boundaries with the Kruger National Park. It offers one of South Africa’s most exceptional Big Five habitats. Wildlife sightings are frequent, and guests often observe animals directly from their suites. Twice-daily game drives are led by award-winning guides and trackers. These experts provide insight into animal behaviour, ecological interactions, and the Greater Kruger ecosystem. Bush walks and night drives allow guests to explore both daytime and nocturnal wildlife.
