Tau Game Lodge
Set in the Madikwe Game Reserve near South Africa’s northern border with Botswana, Tau Game Lodge offers a five-star getaway in the serenity of nature’s untouched magnificence. The interior spaces are designed to reflect the natural outdoor surroundings with thatch roofs, natural color palettes, and eco materials.
Tau Game Lodge offers five-star accommodation to a total of 60 guests in eco-chic chalets that are spread out in U-formation. The layout not only offers excellent privacy but also exceptional views of animals approaching the waterhole. One of the Standard Chalets have been equipped for wheelchair access.
The lodge main area features a semi-open-air lounge, bar, and dining area that overlook the waterhole. Delectable buffet breakfasts and lunches can be savoured in the dining area or outdoor deck while dinners are a celebration under starlit skies in one of the cosy bomas.
When not viewing wildlife from your private suite or the lodge’s viewing lounge, you’ll be heading out on a game drive with an expert ranger to spot the Super Seven (Big Five, endangered African wild dog, and cheetah) among a host of other wildlife and bird species.
There are two communal lodge pools to cool down on hot summer days or simply enjoy a sun lounger and waterhole view with a cocktail in hand. The lodge also offers a kids club, conference-, and wedding facilities.
Tau Game Lodge offers an opulent African Spa experience where you can completely unwind in tranquil surroundings. Here you will indulge your senses in a unique fusion of therapies incorporating the energetic essences of plants to relieve tension and rejuvenate body, mind, and soul.

Madikwe Game Reserve is located in the North Western Province of South Africa and lies on the South Africa/Botswana border.
Getting there:
- Madikwe airstrip is the closet airstrip.
- There are two daily scheduled return flights from Johannesburg to Madikwe Airstrip with Federal Airlines.
- Flight time: Johannesburg to Madikwe: 60 minutes
- Road transfers from Madikwe Airstrip to the lodge take approximately 15 minutes.
- The reserve is a 4 hour drive from Johannesburg.
Child Policy:
- Tau Game Lodge welcomes children of all ages.
- Children under 6 years are not permitted on game drives unless a private vehicle is hired.
- Family units are charged per unit at a set rate.
- Children 0 – 2 years stay free of charge in a standard chalet.
- Children 3 – 5 child rates are applicable depending on the room type.
- Children 6 – 11, occupying their own standard chalet are charged as adults.
Inclusions & Exclusions:
- Included: 2 x Game drives per day and all meals.
- Excluded: All beverages, conservation levies, commercial airport transfers, and anything of personal nature.
Seasons:
- High season: 01 January – 30 April & 01 October – 31 December
- Low season: 01 May – 30 September
Rates:
- The updated rates are displayed for each room category below.
- Rates are charged per person, per night.
- The family units are charged per unit for 4 guests.
- Single supplement of 20% applicable.
- Rates displayed are valid until 31 December 2025
- Single surcharge applies when more than 2 single rooms are booked in high season
- Single surcharge applies during low season on all rooms booked.
