Madikwe Safari Lodges
As the fifth largest game reserve in South Africa, Madikwe Game Reserve is an ecological wonderland spanning over 680 km². The vast landscape covers a transition region between Kalahari thornveld and Lowveld bushveld resulting in a rich diversity of fauna and flora from both ecosystems. Among these very ecosystems you will find a variety of Madikwe safari lodges providing unique accommodation and world class game drives.
There are large volcanic intrusions (known as Inselbergs), expansive open plains, and a riverine environment attracting wildlife, birdlife, and flourishing vegetation. Madikwe Game Reserve is home to 66 large mammal species and 350 species of bird. Among the inspiring display of wild animals, you will find the Big 5 and may experience breath-taking sightings of leopard, black and white rhino, endangered wild dog, and cheetah.
Madikwe Safari Lodges ensures an exclusive and uncrowded safari experience by limiting park access to that of lodge guests only. Madikwe Game Reserve does not allow day visitors or facilities to the public. The reserve boasts some of the top rangers in the country who will often veer off-road to give guests the best up-close sightings and photo opportunities possible. Madikwe Private Game Reserve is also home to some of the best safari lodges in South Africa. From exclusive-use villas and family-friendly cottages to adventurous eco-camping and opulent honeymoon suites, the natural beauty is undoubtedly matched by world-class hospitality at Madikwe safari lodges.
Immersed in history, the reserve places community and sustainability at the forefront of all its endeavours. Each lodge within the reserve is involved in surrounding community upliftment projects, related largely to education or environmental sustainability.

Location:
Madikwe Game Reserve is located in the North Western Province of South Africa and lies on the South Africa/Botswana border.
Getting there:
- Madikwe airstrip is the closet airstrip.
- There are two daily scheduled return flights from Johannesburg to Madikwe Airstrip with Federal Airlines.
- Flight time: Johannesburg to Madikwe: 60 minutes
- Road transfers from Madikwe Airstrip to the lodge take approximately 15 – 30 minutes.
- The reserve is a 4 – 4.5-hour drive from Johannesburg.
