Sanbona Wildlife Reserve is an exclusive 5-star game reserve nestled in the Warmwaterberg Mountains in the Klein Karoo. A mere 3-hour drive from Cape Town, the magnificent landscape is so much more than just a game reserve, it is a 58 000-hectare wilderness sanctuary comprising open plains, river valleys, and mountains brimming with indigenous flora and fauna. It is a true haven for photographers, with ideal lighting and awe-inspiring sightings. For those who prefer an authentic close-up encounter in their natural surrounds, Sanbona offers the Explorer Camp. A great authentically wild bushveld experience for guests aged 16 – 60 years. This two-day venture into the wild gives guests the opportunity to appreciate an off-the-grid stay in the bush and explore the magnificent Karoo landscapes on foot. Luxury tents, cozy nights around a campfire and the guidance of experienced rangers are all part of this magnificent experience at the Sanbona Explorer Camp.

Sanbona is the only place in the world with free roaming and self-sustaining white lions. A truly incredible sight.  Game rangers Sanbona Explorer Camp are passionate about every detail in the wild, from the smallest plants to tall giraffes, they are experts in their field. During the walking safaris you will have the opportunity to see the African Big 5 as well as an abundance of other wildlife including gemsbok, springbok, hartebeest, eland, kudu, zebra, jackal, caracal, aardvark, and brown hyena. In Addition to Sanbona Explorer Camp, the private reserve is home to Tilney Manor, Dwyka Tented Lodge and a family-friendly lodge.

The Explorer Camp offers three canvas tents that can sleep a maximum of two people each on stretcher beds with sheets, duvets, and pillows. En-suite facilities are available on request with bucket shower, chemical toilet, and canvas basin. Getting there

By Road

The reserve is a 3-hour drive from Cape Town on the renowned Route 62. The turn-off is 40km from Montague with the main entrance to the reserve 7km from the R62.

 

Flying

Sanbona has an airstrip for small private flights and helicopter landings on the reserve. Air transfers are weather dependent.
