Cape Peninsula Tour
The Cape Peninsula offers incredible natural beauty, scenic drives, wildlife, cultural experiences, and endless opportunities for exploration. Azure waters and pristine beaches line the Atlantic Seaboard while surf spots, rolling mountain ranges, and abundant flora make it an adventurer’s playground. This Cape Peninsula Tour takes you all the way around the tip of the Mother City to showcase her magnificence and diversity. You may even spot some dolphins and whales along the way.
Your Cape Peninsula Tour starts along the pristine beaches of Clifton and Camps Bay, which carry Blue Flag status and boast clear turquoise waters with dreamy soft white sand. The area is a lively and trendy palm-lined summer attraction with sidewalk cafes, bars, and sporting activities. The route takes you on a breath-taking coastal drive between vast oceans and the Twelve Apostles Mountain range, forming the back of Table Mountain. The mountains stretch for almost 6 kilometres, taking you right through to Hout Bay, a small fishing village with cozy restaurants, a large harbour market, and the option of heading out by boat to witness hundreds of seals that inhabit the nearby Seal Island.
As you look down at Hout Bay beach you will start the drive along the world-renowned Chapmans Peak, an incredible 9km curvy scenic drive offering lookout points, picnic spots, and the most incredible views. Make sure to have your camera ready – you will want to brag about these views to friends and family. At the tip of the peninsula, you will reach Cape Point, a spectacular nature reserve known for its rugged cliffs, over 250 species of birdlife, unique fauna and flora, expansive ocean views, shipwrecks, and open landscapes.
The second half of the Cape Peninsula Tour takes you around the Southern Peninsula full of charm, character, and…penguins! Boulders Beach is one of the only places in the world where you can swim alongside penguins (optional and additional conservation fee excluded). The penguin colony here has grown to over 3000 penguins. Simon’s Town is home to the SA Navy and boasts a truly charming coastal town atmosphere and vibrant history. The tour takes you along the coast to the quirky seaside village of Kalk Bay which is home to eclectic cafes, antique stores, costume shops, cobbled streets, vintage bookstores, and comforting bakeries. Muizenberg is a world-renowned surfing hub and always buzzing with surfboards as people from all parts of society enjoy the ocean. The beach is characterized by its famous colourful beach huts, a clear giveaway that you have reached surf town.
Your last stop will end the day off in tranquillity at the fairy-tale-like Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. The sprawling gardens are one of ten botanical gardens in Africa, offering a lush haven of relaxation at the foot of Devil’s Peak Mountain. The gardens boast indigenous flora, walkways, manicured lawns, streams, ponds, and feature hiking trails, a gift shop, and a restaurant.
