    Chitwa Chitwa is an exclusive Big 5 private game reserve set along the banks of the largest lake in the Sabi Sands making for a remarkable diversity of fauna and flora. Chitwa Chitwa Game Lodge offers game viewing opportunities from the lodge itself. Animals drinking at the water’s edge are visible from the lounge, dining areas, and private decks.     Forming part of the Greater Kruger, Chitwa Chitwa is renowned for its exclusive safari experiences and outstanding twice-daily game drives with highly qualified rangers and a Shangaan tracker. Between them, a wealth of experience delivers first-class safari drives and guided bush walks. Unforgettable, close up wildlife encounters include sightings of Africa’s Big 5: lion, elephant, rhino, Cape buffalo, and leopard as well as giraffe, a variety of antelope, hippo, and zebra.  The lake setting attracts a large bird colony, making Chitwa Chitwa a bird-watching paradise. Guests at Chitwa Chitwa Game Lodge will have the opportunity to hire professional photography equipment to capture all of the magic on a photographic safari. Apart from the main lodge, Chitwa Chitwa Private Game Reserve hosts a luxury villa on the property called Chitwa House.

    Wildlife:

    • High concentration of Big Five with frequent sightings, particularly know for leopard & lion sightings.
    • Other wildlife include but are not limited to the hippopotamus, giraffe, zebra, cheetah, wild dog, hyaena, warthog and many other cat and antelope species.

    Game Drives:

    • Sabi Sands game drives are ranked some of the best in the world.
    • Game drives take place twice a day in the early mornings and afternoons for a duration of 3-4 hours.
    • Game drives are led by an experienced guide and tracker team.
    • Vehicles are allowed to go off road to track and follow the wildlife.
    • Strict traverse rules are in place and vehicle numbers are limited in each reserve. A maximum of two vehicles are allowed at any sighting.
    • Night drives and guided bushwalks are permitted.

    Location:

    • Located on the north eastern side of the Sabi Sands Game Reserve and shares unfenced borders with Djuma, Nkorho, Cheetah Plains game reserves.
    • Sabi Sands is a 65 000-hectare private game reserve and lies in South Africa’s far north-eastern corner in the Mpumalanga province. The private reserve forms part of the Greater Kruger, sharing unfenced borders with the Kruger National Park.

    Getting there:

    • Arathusa private airstrip is the closet airstrip, two daily chartered flights from Johannesburg are operated by Federal Airlines.
    • Hoedspruit (HDS) is the closet commercial airport to Chitwa Chita, daily flights operate from Johannesburg and Cape Town.
    • Flight time from Johannesburg to Hoedspruit or Arathusa private airstrip: 60 minutes.
    • Flight time from Cape Town to Hoedspruit: 2 hours 30 minutes.
    • Road transfers from Hoedspruit to Arathusa take 120 minutes.

    Child Policy:

    • Chitwa Chitwa welcomes children of all ages
    • Children under 6 years are not permitted on the game drives unless a private vehicle is hired.
    • Children 0 – 3 year stay free of charge.
    • Children 3 – 6  years pay 25% of adult rate.
    • Children 6 – 12  years pay 50% of adult rate.

    Inclusions & Exclusions:

    • Included: 2 x Game drives per day, guided bush walks, all meals, soft drinks, in-room minibar, selected alcoholic beverages, and Skukuza airstrip transfers.
    • Excluded: Premium branded drinks, conservation levies, other airport transfers, and anything of personal nature.
